# Best practices Consider the following key points for accurate and efficient field tests. ## All modes - Ensure the device is activated with the correct project profile before starting a session. See [Activation link](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-42221-1/topic/install-and-activate.html#activation-link). - Enable **Location** and disable **Power Optimization** for SkyLogger before testing. - Collect data broadly throughout your target area rather than at a single test point. For best results, test across a diverse range of signal environments such as rural, suburban, urban, and dense urban areas to ensure representative coverage. - Don’t survey with the device in a backpack, pocket, or similar. Keep it in hand throughout the session. ## Indoor survey mode - Use floor plans whenever available to assist in accurately marking your physical location. - Walk in straight-line segments at a slow and steady pace for walking surveys. - Only mark path segments in walkable areas. - Hold the device in hand with line of sight to Wi-Fi beacons. - Survey the perimeter of all rooms and the middle of large open areas. - Enable the Coverage Map to see a live indicator of surveyed vs. unsurveyed areas. - For large floors venues, breaking the survey into multiple sessions can reduce errors during collection. - Multiple devices can survey the same floor and venue simultaneously. The publish process will combine them accordingly. Last Published: Aug 07, 2026 [Previous Topic Improve Coverage](https://docs.qualcomm.com/bundle/publicresource/80-42221-1/topics/improve-coverage.md)
