# Set Flight mode to disable transmitter

The QTS112 flight mode feature, when enabled, will disable the device's transmitter
while the device is in flight in accordance with FAA advisory circular A.C 91.21-1D.

The flight detection algorithm on QTS112 is designed to prevent emission while the device is
in a flight. In the device has any scheduled transmissions to the cloud, the algorithm checks
two independent sources to confirm whether the device is in flight:

- **Cellular Radio:** Measures the speed/velocity with which the device is moving. The
cellular modem inside QTS112 is a Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI) low-power modem. It
supports LTE Cat1bis Rel 14 connectivity. The device supports power class 3, which means it
is capable of transmitting as high as 23 dBm.
- **Accelerometer:** A 3-axis combo sensor containing an accelerometer that comes in
small land grid array package (LGA) and with an operating temperature range from -40°C to
        +85°C.

When both of these checks confirm that the device is not on a flight, the device is allowed
to transmit. If either one of the checks fails, the device is put in airplane mode, which
prevents the device from transmitting any cellular signals.

Note: While the device’s transmitter is disabled due to Flight Mode, or because the device is
outside of cellular coverage, a telescopic feature changes the reporting interval to 1 hour.
After the device exits Flight Mode, or regains cellular coverage, the device will
automatically reconnect to the cloud. It may take up to one hour for regular reporting to
      resume.

Enable or disable the Flight Mode Detection (FMD) feature under **Event Detection**.
