# AI App Compatibility

This section outlines the process for transitioning applications from the Snapdragon X Elite platform to the new Snapdragon X2 Elite platform.
There are two recommended approaches to simplify the transition process:

1. [Ease of deployment](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-62010-1/topic/app_compatibility.html#ease-of-deployment) (recommended for faster enablement).
2. [High performance](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-62010-1/topic/app_compatibility.html#high-performance) (recommended for best X2 performance).

## Prerequisite

- Update runtime libraries (QAIRT SDK 2.42+):

## Ease of deployment

To deploy the AI applications created for the Snapdragon X-Elite system on the X2 Elite system, update the application to include the necessary new libraries that support X2 Elite systems.

1. For ONNX Runtime-based applications, check the Microsoft ONNX runtime releases at [Releases.microsoft/onnxruntime](https://github.com/microsoft/onnxruntime/releases/tag/v1.24.3) and use ONNX Runtime v1.24.3.
2. For QNN Runtime-based applications, copy the required libraries from QAIRT SDK to the execution/installation folder.

3. After copying the libraries that support the Snapdragon X2 Elite platform, run the application on the target platform.

## High performance mode with native migration

This method requires that you generate v81 context binaries for X2 Elite. The runtime logic is that the application must detect SoC/NPU ID and load the matching binary. See the [QNN Workflow](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-62010-1/topic/qnn-workflow.html#qnn-workflow) used for v73 context binary generation. While following this workflow, incorporate the modifications listed below to enable v81 context binary generation for the X2 Elite platform.

Do the following to generate v81 context binaries:

1. Update the `backendExtensionDetails.json` file by modifying the `dsp_arch` from v73 to v81 and `soc_model` from 60 to 88 as shown in the following image.

3. After copying the libraries that support the Snapdragon X2 Elite platform, run the application on the target platform.

## ABI compatibility

In compliance with Execution Provider ABI guidance introduced in ONNX runtime 1.24.1, the QNN Execution Provider for ONNX Runtime v2.0.0 is now available in preview mode.
This standalone shared library offers the flexibility of introducing new features into the QNN EP without the dependency of ONNX Runtime core releases.
Developers are advised to follow instructions in the [Usage Guide](https://onnxruntime.ai/docs/execution-providers/plugin-ep-libraries/usage.html) to understand the API implications of this change.
