# Overview

Computer vision (CV) is an interdisciplinary field of study in engineering that focuses
on enabling computers to extract meaningful information and achieve a high-level understanding
from digital images, videos, and other visual input.
Computer vision equips machines with the ability to mimic human visual perception, allowing them
to observe, comprehend, and interpret the world around them.

As part of the CV offering from Qualcomm,
OpenCV as the developer-facing API allows developers to leverage and port existing
OpenCV-based applications seamlessly to Qualcomm^®^ Snapdragon platforms.

The current release enables native OpenCV version 4.5.5 with the default OpenCV implementation that
runs on CPU without additional hardware acceleration of the operations.

Subsequent releases will contain Qualcomm-based accelerations of OpenCV and OpenCV extension APIs,
with Qualcomm Computer Vision solutions to improve performance and/or power on Qualcomm chipsets.
