# x86\_64-based Mac host machine requirements

Ensure that the x86\_64-based Mac host machine meets the following system
requirements:
| **Processor architecture** | x86\_64 |
| --- | --- |
| **Processor architecture** | To verify that the architecture of your Mac is x86\_64, run the
`uname -a` command in Terminal.
 |
| **CPU cores** | 16 |
| **OS** | macOS 13 or higher |
| **RAM** | 16 GB |
| **Storage** | 300 GB free space for the UTM VM |

## Download Ubuntu ISO and UTM virtualization software
To create an Ubuntu VM in UTM, download the Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS ISO
(ubuntu-22.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso) file from the [Ubuntu website](https://www.releases.ubuntu.com/22.04/).
To virtualize Ubuntu, download the UTM virtualization software from the [UTM
website](https://mac.getutm.app/).
