# Perform Ethernet operations

    - ## Check the data connectivity

Use the `ping` command to check the connectivity between the device interface and the interface that’s connected remotely.

Note

The client IP address must be in the same subnet as that of the device IP address.

## Configure the NIC settings

Use the `ethtool` command to view the network interface controller (NIC) parameters and configure the NIC settings such as speed, port, auto-negotiation, and so on.

## Configure the network interface

Use the `ifconfig` command to assign an address to a network interface and configure the interface with additional parameters like MTU and display its information. ## Monitor the network connections

Use the `netstat` command to monitor, configure, and troubleshoot connections over the network. You can monitor both incoming and outgoing connections, routing tables, port listening and usage statistics. ## Analyze the network traffic

## Monitor the network connections

Use the `netstat` command to monitor, configure, and troubleshoot connections over the network. You can monitor both incoming and outgoing connections, routing tables, port listening and usage statistics. ## Analyze the network traffic

Use the `tcpdump` command to analyze the network traffic by intercepting and displaying packets that are created or received by a network interface.

## Identify and read the network route

A routing table contains the parameters necessary to identify and read the network route. Use the `ip` command or `netstat` command to retrieve information of a routing table. ## Analyze the network traffic

Use the `tcpdump` command to analyze the network traffic by intercepting and displaying packets that are created or received by a network interface.

## Identify and read the network route

A routing table contains the parameters necessary to identify and read the network route. Use the `ip` command or `netstat` command to retrieve information of a routing table.
