# Overview of power management

>
>
> This guide describes the power management techniques on Qualcomm Linux that ensure minimum power consumption without compromising on performance.

Note

The guide uses the terms low power state and sleep state interchangeably to indicate the power-saving mechanism.

It includes:

- Application processor subsystem (APSS) architecture
- CPU active power management through CPU frequency scaling mechanisms
and its tunables
- CPU idle power management through CPU sleep power states

The features and power states explained here are for reference only.

Note

See [Hardware SoCs](https://docs.qualcomm.com/bundle/publicresource/topics/80-80022-115/soc.html) that are supported on Qualcomm Linux.
