# Commission the device using chip-tool

After the device joins the network, use `chip-tool` on the host PC to commission the device. The on-network commissioning method uses mDNS to discover the device and then performs Password Authenticated Session Establishment (PASE) over IP. This method doesn't require Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Thread.
