# Commission the device using chip-tool Source: [https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-5/topic/commission_the_device_using_chip_tool.html](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-5/topic/commission_the_device_using_chip_tool.html) After the device joins the network, use `chip-tool` on the host PC to commission the device. The on-network commissioning method uses mDNS to discover the device and then performs Password Authenticated Session Establishment (PASE) over IP. This method doesn't require Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) or Thread. - **[Obtain the setup passcode and discriminator](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-5/topic/obtain_the_setup_passcode_and_discriminator.html)** - **[Run on-network commissioning](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-5/topic/run_on_network_commissioning.html)** - **[Control the device](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-5/topic/control_the_device.html)** **Parent Topic:** [Matter demo](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-5/topic/matter_demo.html) Last Published: Jul 30, 2026 [Previous Topic Connect QCC730 to a Wi-Fi AP](https://docs.qualcomm.com/bundle/publicresource/80-Y8730-5/topics/connect_qcc730_to_a_wi_fi_ap.md) [Next Topic Obtain the setup passcode and discriminator](https://docs.qualcomm.com/bundle/publicresource/80-Y8730-5/topics/obtain_the_setup_passcode_and_discriminator.md)
