# Anti‑rollback

Anti‑rollback is used to determine if the anti‑rollback image version is greater than or equal to the anti‑rollback version saved in OTP.

	
The anti‑rollback image version is encoded in the upper 32 bits of the SW\_ID field in the image certificate and is compared against the 64 bits [63:0] of the anti‑rollback region in OTP.		The maximum anti‑rollback version range is from 0 to 64.

	
The anti‑rollback image version should be consistent across images and can be upgraded up to 64 times. Separate number spaces for the anti‑rollback version and software release version are recommended.

The anti‑rollback feature is configured in the OTP and SecImage configuration file.

	
### OTP fuse configuration
				
The anti‑rollback feature is automatically activated when the secure boot feature is enabled by the `SECURE_BOOT_ENFORCE` bits in OTP. The anti‑rollback version check is enforced on SBL and APP images, but it isn't performed on SBL and APP golden images.

		
The anti‑rollback region in OTP specifies the minimum anti‑rollback image version for SBL and APP images. For details, see [Anti‑rollback](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-8/topic/otp_format_and_configuration.html#anti_rollback_0).

	
### SecImage configuration file
				
In SecImage configuration file qcc730\_secimage.xml, `<sw_id>` is used to specify the anti‑rollback version and software type. The anti‑rollback version is			compared against the anti‑rollback region in OTP according to the software type.

		
For example, after loading the signed image whose anti‑rollback version is `0x00000003`, SBL updates the `ANTI_ROLLBACK[7:0]` bit			vector to `0x07` according to the anti‑rollback version, as listed in the following table.

## Anti‑rollback version upgrade

To update the anti‑rollback version in OTP:

	
1. Both SBL and APP images must be signed with the new anti‑rollback image version number. The default anti‑rollback image version number is 0.
2. On bootup, the PBL compares the version number in the image certificate with the value in the anti‑rollback OTP fuse. If the image			version number is lower than the OTP fuse value, the image is rejected, and boot is terminated.
3. If the image version number is equal to or higher than the OTP fuse value, chip bootup continues. The SBL compares the version number			in the image certificate with the value in the anti‑rollback OTP fuse. If the image version number is lower than the OTP fuse			value, the image is rejected, and boot is terminated.
4. If the image version number is equal to or higher than the OTP fuse value, chip bootup continues. The SBL automatically programs the OTP fuses with the image version number if it's greater			than the existing OTP fuse value. 
Note: OTP fuses are blown only if the image is marked as Current. If the over-the-air (OTA) firmware upgrade mechanism is used,				the image is marked as Current after the application confirms the Trial image (stages 1 and 2 in [Figure : Anti‑rollback flow for OTA firmware upgrade](https://docs.qualcomm.com/doc/80-Y8730-8/topic/anti_rollback.html#anti_rollback_version_upgrade__fig_rgg_vwf_h1c).)
5. Once new anti‑rollback values are updated in OTP, all subsequent images need to be signed with an image version number equal or greater than the current OTP fuse value. All versions lower than the version in OTP fuse are rejected.
