# Update a standalone SDK for platform compatibility

    - You can update standalone SDKs individually to ensure platform compatibility. These SDKs act as separate layers within the Qualcomm IM SDK and fetch either source code or proprietary binaries.

Note

It is recommended to use the SDK versions integrated with a specific Qualcomm IM SDK whenever possible. However, you may manually update standalone SDKs if needed.

You configure SDK versions in the [`\[qcom-ml.inc\]`](https://github.com/quic-yocto/meta-qcom-qim-product-sdk/blob/kirkstone/recipes-qcom-ml/qcom-ml.inc) file.

## Prerequisites

Before you update the SDK, ensure that you:

- Have access to the [`\[qcom-ml.inc\]`](https://github.com/quic-yocto/meta-qcom-qim-product-sdk/blob/kirkstone/recipes-qcom-ml/qcom-ml.inc) file in your build environment.
- Know the correct version string for the SDK you want to update.
- Have permission to modify build configuration files.
- Can access the Qualcomm Software Center (QSC) to retrieve SDK version details.

## Update the Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK or Qualcomm AI Engine direct SDK

To update either SDK:

1. Open the [`\[qcom-ml.inc\]`](https://github.com/quic-yocto/meta-qcom-qim-product-sdk/blob/kirkstone/recipes-qcom-ml/qcom-ml.inc) file.
2. Find the **Version** field.
3. Enter the required SDK version string.

## Find the version string

- Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK:

    1. Go to [QSC](https://softwarecenter.qualcomm.com/#/) > **Qualcomm Neural Processing SDK**.
    2. Select the required version from the **Version** drop-down list.
- Qualcomm AI Engine Direct SDK:

    1. Go to [QSC](https://softwarecenter.qualcomm.com/#/) > **Qualcomm AI Engine direct SDK**.
    2. Select the required version from the **Version** drop-down list.
