# Enable audio Bring up the audio subsystem, confirm it’s ready, and play and record audio with the Audio PipeWire utilities. Enable audio in two stages: bring up audio to validate that the subsystem is ready, then use the PipeWire utilities pw-play and pw-record to play, record, and verify audio. The following figure shows the workflow to enable audio: VBackground-1 Solid Page-1 Sheet.18 Rectangle.5 Bring up audio Verify LPAI is enabled Verify sound card is re... If the LPAI fails to load, re-flash the device. ## Verify sound card is registered To confirm sound card registration, run the following commands: ~$ cat /proc/asound/cards 0 [GLYMURCRD ]: glymur - GLYMUR-CRD GLYMUR-CRD Copy to clipboard Locate the sound card named GLYMUR-CRD. If sound card registration fails, re-flash the device. If the issue persists, contact the Qualcomm support team. ## Enable audio with PipeWire PipeWire is a graph-based processing framework that handles multimedia data. Find the PipeWire source code at `build-qcom-wayland/workspace/sources/pipewire`. For detailed APIs, see the [PipeWire open source documentation.](https://docs.pipewire.org/page_api.html). Complete the following prerequisites for PipeWare: 1. Install the following packages: sudo apt update sudo apt install audioreach-pipewire-plugin sudo apt install audioreach-kernel-dkms sudo apt install audioreach-config Copy to clipboard 2. Restart the device. 3. Check `wpctl` status using the following command: ~$ wpctl status Copy to clipboard ## Play audio with PipeWire To play audio, run the following example command: pw-play --target=pal_sink_speaker_ll /tmp/test.wav -v Copy to clipboard ## Record audio with PipeWire To record audio, run the following example command: pw-record --target=pal_source_handset_mic --rate=48000 --format=s16 --channels=2 /tmp/test.wav -v Copy to clipboard Last Published: Sep 08, 2026 [Previous Topic Audio overview](https://docs.qualcomm.com/bundle/publicresource/80-A0399-50/topics/overview.md) [Next Topic Customize audio use cases](https://docs.qualcomm.com/bundle/publicresource/80-A0399-50/topics/customize.md)
