# DWARF dump

The DWARF dump utility parses DWARF debug information in object files and debug information archives and outputs their contents in human-readable form.

## Command

To start this utility from the command line:

hexagon-llvm-dwarfdump [<option...>] [<filename...>]
    Copy to clipboard

Where:

- `<filename>` is one or more input object files or `.dSYM` bundles.
- `<option>` is one or more of the following.

### Section-specific dump options

These options control which sections are dumped. Where applicable, these options take an optional `=<offset>`  argument to dump only the entry at the specified offset.

### Other options

--arch=<string>
    Copy to clipboard

Dump DWARF debug information for the specified CPU architecture only. Architectures can be specified by name or number.

This option can be specified multiple times, once for each architecture.

--diff
    Copy to clipboard

Omit offsets and addresses to dump the output in a format that is more friendly when comparing output from two files.

--find=<name>
    -f <name>
    Copy to clipboard

Search for the exact match for `<name>` in the accelerator tables and print the matching debug information entries.

When no accelerator tables are available, use the `--name` option, which is slower but more complete.

--ignore-case
    -i
    Copy to clipboard

Ignore any case distinctions when searching.

--lookup=<address>
    Copy to clipboard

Look up the specified address in the debug information and print out any available details, such as file, function, block, and line table.

--name=<name>
    -n <name>
    Copy to clipboard

Find and print all debug information entries whose name (`DW_AT_name` attribute) matches the exact text in `<name>`.

When used with the `--regex` option, `<name>` is interpreted as a regular expression.

-o <filename>
    Copy to clipboard

Redirect the output to the specified file.

--parent-recurse-depth=<N>
    Copy to clipboard

When displaying the parents of debug information entries, show the parents only to a maximum depth of `<N>`.

--quiet
    Copy to clipboard

Use with `--verify` to not emit to STDOUT.

--recurse-depth=<N>
    -r <N>
    Copy to clipboard

When displaying the children of debug information entries, show the children only to a maximum depth of `<N>`.

--regex
    -x
    Copy to clipboard

When searching with `--name`, treat any `<name>` strings as regular expressions instead of an exact string matches.

If `--ignore-case` is also specified, the regular expression becomes case-insensitive.

--show-children
    -c
    Copy to clipboard

Show the children of a debug information entry when selectively printing entries (using `--debug-info [=<offset>]` or options such as `--find` or `--name`).

--show-form
    -F
    Copy to clipboard

Show the DWARF form types after the DWARF attribute types.

--show-parents
    -p
    Copy to clipboard

Show the parents of a debug information entry when selectively printing entries (using `--debug-info [=<offset>]` or options such as `--find` or `--name`).

--show-section-sizes
    Copy to clipboard

Show the sizes of all debug sections, expressed in bytes.

--statistics
    Copy to clipboard

Collect debug information quality metrics and output the results as machine- readable single-line JSON output.

**Output format**

The JSON output represents quality metrics of the processed debug information. These metrics are useful for comparing changes between two compilers, particularly for judging the effect that a change to the compiler has on the debug info quality.

The output is formatted as key-value pairs. The first pair contains a version number. The following naming scheme is used for the keys:

- `variables` - local variables and parameters
- `local vars` - local variables
- `params` - formal parameters

For aggregated values, the following keys are used:

- `sum_of_all_variables(…)` - the sum applied to all variables
- `#bytes` - the number of bytes
- `#variables - entry values …` - the number of variables excluding the entry values, and others

--summarize-types

Abbreviate the descriptions of the type unit entries.

--uuid
    -u
    Copy to clipboard

Show the UUID for each architecture.

-v
    --verbose
    Copy to clipboard

Output more low-level encoding details when dumping the output.

Use this option to help to debug the DWARF issues.

--verify
    Copy to clipboard

Verify the DWARF debug information.

@<file>
    Copy to clipboard

Argument for reading command-line options from the specified file.
