# Boot and connect with the device

Sign in with the default credentials at first boot, then connect the device to a network and to your host. The first sign-in prompts you to set a new password that you use for future logins and after every restart.

## Sign in at first boot

1. Sign in with the default credentials.
2. Set a new password when prompted. Use the following credentials for the first sign-in:

> - Username: `debian`
>     - Password: `debian`
3. Follow the on-screen prompt to set a new password. You use this password for future logins and after every restart.

## Connect to Wi-Fi

1. Connect the device to a Wi-Fi network. Replace <SSID> and <password> with your network details.

> 
> 
> sudo nmcli dev wifi connect <SSID> password <password>
>         Copy to clipboard
2. Check the status

> 
> 
> nmcli -p device            # check status
>         Copy to clipboard
3. Check the IP address.

> 
> 
> ip address show wlP4p1s0   # check IP
>         Copy to clipboard
4. Verify the connectivity.

> 
> 
> ping google.com            # verify connectivity
>         Copy to clipboard

## Connect with SSH

1. Install the secure shell (SSH) server on the device. Replace username and &lt;device-ip&gt; with your device details.

> 
> 
> apt install openssh-server
>         Copy to clipboard
2. Find its IP address,

> 
> 
> ip address show wlP4p1s0   # Wi-Fi IP
>         Copy to clipboard
3. Connect from the host.

> 
> 
> ssh username@<device-ip>
>         Copy to clipboard

## Connect with UART

1. Connect to the device serial console over universal asynchronous receiver-transmitter (UART).

> 
> 
> ls /dev/ttyUSB*
>         Copy to clipboard
2. Identify the USB serial port, then open it at 115200 baud.

> 
> 
> # identify port, e.g. /dev/ttyUSB0
>         screen /dev/ttyUSB0 115200
>         Copy to clipboard
